Rating:
Last issue ended with America Chavez learning that her recently-ex-girlfriend Lisa Halloran had been kidnapped by her young Chavez Guerillas fans on Maltixa in the Utopian Parallel. They claimed they did it because Lisa made America unhappy. But they also said that she'd been ignoring their calls and they'd only let Lisa go if Chavez agreed to be their leader. America zoomed off to the rescue.
This issue picks up there and sees Prodigy and X'Andria planning to help her. America tries to keep calm because the Guerillas are just kids looking for connection. She remembers after she came to Earth from the Utopian Parallel as a young girl about 10 years ago and was taken in by the Puerto Rican community in the Bronx. Since then she's been made welcome in other places such as Cartagena, Colombia. Then she became a superhero. And then Lisa made her feel like she finally had a home. Now she flies into the sky above the interdimensional Sotomayor University and creates a star-shaped portal to take her to Maltixa. And behind her a mystery char we know as Madrimar urges her on.
But when Chavez arrives somewhere else she realises that it's not Maltixa. And she gets punched out by Juggernaut who thinks she's another mutant after him. And when she recovers she's faced with a blue-faced 'demon'. She demands to be taken to Lisa, but Nightcrawler just bamf's away. Then she sees him attacking Juggie alongside Colossus, Sprite and Wolverine. She takes to the air to be confronted by Storm (the leather-clad mohawk-haired version) who says America's ancestors predicted her arrival here in the X-Men's Danger Room. Chavez forms a portal to escape but Ororo warns her all her portals will lead back here because this is where she needs to be, to learn something that will help her.
We get a brief interlude in the Ancestral Plane where Madrimar in a hooded wrap is lying alone in a wrestling ring with a black eye and a bloody nose. She claims to be guiding Chavez and soon they will meet.
Ororo Munroe takes America to her plant-filled attic room. She opens the roof to let the sky in and tells her to meditate and listen for Lisa's voice to lead her to her. Chavez tries it but claims this isn't her way. Ororo suggests that there may be more to her powers than she knows, more the portals and punching. She may have a deep connection to the multiverse. America admits that she's dreamed something like that but she always wakes to reality. Ororo says she needs to get connected to her ancestors (who Chavez doesn't believe she has beyond her dead mothers).
Chavez insists that her way of dealing with things is fighting, and challenges Storm to a duel. Ororo casually bowls her over with a gust of wind, but then agrees to fight - with the safe word 'thunderclap'. Ororo gets her to admit that she's feeling guilty because she walked out on Lisa. But only because Lisa sent her away (#1). In the midst of a conjured-up snowstorm America rises into the air and hears Lisa telling someone that America's secret favourite TV show is Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
When things have calmed down Ororo lets America open her next portal. She tells her that the forces that brought them together will soon reveal themselves.
This portal does take her to Maltixa and the Chavez Guerillas including Imani and Zulai. The girls repeat their desire for Chavez to lead them but America demands to see Lisa instead. Then Lisa runs in and says the Guerillas are right. They explain that the Entity that she defeated in #1 has returned as lots of little versions of itself which are terrorising the place. And on cue the mini-Entities turn up, and 1 of them wounds Imani. Paramedic Lisa tends to her while Chavez and the other Guerillas battle the swarm. Imani recovers but gets hit again saving her friend Zulai.
The battle against the swarm seems unending until a spacecraft arrives and zaps some of them. X'Andria and her Leelumultipass Phi Theta Betas jump out to join the fight, leaving Prodigy flying the craft (which looks suspiciously like the 1 the Ultimates were using in #1). The mini-foes greet the giant pink Entity who now declares that Chavez has 'the mark' and it must be crushed. America intends herself to do the crushing.
