Synopsis

Captain America (2005 series) #44 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Beijing, 1968: Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, invades a well-guarded Chinese facility on orders from his Soviet masters; his objective: assassinate Professor Zhang Chin….

In modern New York, Captain America and Black Widow discover that her UN contact is being transferred to Madripoor as discipline for revealing the existence of the stolen database to Cap; his revenge is to put them on its trail. Widow follows the intel, while Cap goes after the mercenaries. Bucky blazes a violent path through the city’s underground, forcing the owner of an illegal gun shop to give him the name of an ex-Special Forces soldier who has been buying weapons: Griffin. Meanwhile, Batroc and his gang have kidnapped a scientist forcing him to give the details on a certain "package" they are after. The French mercenary reports back to his shadowy employer that the object is being moved tomorrow and he has left a clear trail for Captain America to follow. Bucky tracks Griffin to his apartment and discovers a hidden map with a clearly marked rout on it. The next day, Cap is on the scene as Batroc and company assault an armored transport. He jumps his cycle through the air to land atop the vehicle and battle Batroc. The two again trade blows but a dark, shadowy figure appears and knocks Cap from the moving vehicle to the street. The new villain swoops down on him, saying, "Don’t tell me you do not remember me…."

In 1968 Beijing, Winter Soldier suddenly appears behind Zhang Chin and raises his gun. Chin says, "Wait. I know you," recognizing him as his rescuer during the war. And now he’s come to kill him? But a shadowy protector materializes by Chin’s side: The Man with No Face.
