After his fight with Tyrannus and the Mole Man, Hulk is wandering through the subterranean tunnels trying to find his way to the surface world.

Meanwhile, General Thunderbolt Ross is plotting his next encounter with his green-complexion adversary by using the new Gammatron Bombarder. Ross can track the Hulk using a seism-recorder housed at a “heavily guarded military base”. After locating him, Ross calculates the Hulk goes toward the San Andreas fault.

Ross calls in the big guns, but Quicksilver surprises him, followed by a phasing Vision and the rest of the new team of Avengers: Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Goliath. They explain to the perplexed general that they have the “muscle” to stop the Hulk.

The Vision phases through solid earth and finds the Hulk still tramping in the endless caves. The Vision taunts him and draws the Hulk above ground, where the new Avengers await. But they discover to be no match for the mindless brute!

Eventually, Goliath places the Hulk between two poles of the Gammatron Bombarder. Gamma rays bath Jade Jaws in an agonizing green light. But the Hulk withstands the attack and destroys the machine.

Finally, having lost his taste for battle, Hulk leaps away. But at some point, he turns into Bruce Banner, crashing unconscious on a wooded hillside.

Also in this story (in flashbacks): Loki, Iron Man, Thor, Giant-Man, Wasp.

Incredible Hulk #128 Review by (February 15, 2010)
First appearance of the Avengers in a Hulk comic. Another good slug fest in a transitional issue moving the Hulk toward other adventures.
