Synopsis

Immortal Hulk #30 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

At Alpha Flight HQ, Puck, Titania, and Absorbing Man learn that Hulk and his associates are in Phoenix, Arizona while the city is under attack by giant monsters….

As the monsters are destroying Phoenix, Hulk is inside the gullet of the monster called Lovecraft, fighting nasty parasites and a deadly gastric acid….

Meanwhile, the newspaper building is being wrecked by the three-headed Harryhausen and Jackie McGee and the other staff are trying to escape but the monster destroys the stairway; they rush upstairs only to see one of the monster’s heads coming through the walls—but it explodes, revealing Rick Jones….

Doc Samson and Red Harpy face the acid-spewing Bradbury and, realizing they aren’t invulnerable to its attacks, hold back. Alpha Flight arrives, mocking Samson for having deserted them for the enemy (Hulk). Titania then drops to the ground, stuffing a huge ball of steel and concrete into the monster’s mouth, plugging the lava flow….

Dario Agger, the Minotaur, sits at Roxxon HQ, watching the destruction on TV and plotting to discredit the rest of Hulk’s team and crushing the head of another flunky who hesitates to do the worst….

Samson and Red Harpy kill the one called O’Brien and Samson discovers that each of the monsters is a shell containing a swarm of intestinal parasites. And then he remembers where Hulk is….

Hulk tears his way out of Lovecraft, releasing a flow of gastric acid and little monsters all over the highway which is crowded with fleeing citizens. The news reporters jump to the conclusion that Hulk has caused all of this. But in the nick of time, the sky glows with light and Xemnu the Titan descends from the clouds as humanity’s savior….

Review / Commentaries

Immortal Hulk #30 Review by (January 29, 2020)

Review: The opening Bible quotation hints at it but there is no way to prepare us for the shock of Xemnu, of all beings, coming down as the messiah. Really, it’s supremely weird. But it does make for a great way to top off a pretty cool comic full of giant monster devastation and heroic action. Even if it looks like Dario Agger is going to win the PR war against Hulk. Stay tuned.

Comments: Alpha Flight has a copy of CREEPY #11 (October 1966) at their HQ. Belardino Brabo, and Cam Smith contributed to the inking.
