Incredible Hulk, The (1968 series) #457

Rick Jones and Janis recover the shattered remains of the Absorbing Man, who reconstitutes himself and takes to the skies, carrying them in pursuit of the Hulk. Meanwhile, the Juggernaut—once thought unstoppable—is being overpowered by the Hulk, whose strength has been amplified by Apocalypse’s implants. Juggernaut is on the brink of death when the Absorbing Man intervenes, saving him from a fatal blow.

The Hulk, now consumed by his role as War, turns his fury on the Absorbing Man. As the two clash, Janis manages to separate them, giving Rick a chance to reach out to his old friend. But the Hulk, lost in rage, strikes Rick with tremendous force, slamming him into a wall and leaving him gravely injured.

In that moment, the Hulk sees a haunting vision of his father, Brian Banner. The image jolts him into clarity. Realizing the harm he’s caused, especially to Rick, the Hulk tears out Apocalypse’s implants, discards his weaponry, and leaps away—rejecting the path of War and choosing solitude once more.
