Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Danny Earls

Story Name:

Frozen Charlotte Part Three

Synopsis

Incredible Hulk #11 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Searching for the missing Charlie, Hulk is now fighting the ghastly Frozen Charlotte (real name: Nephele, Mother of Angels) in the underground cathedral. She claims to be protecting Charlie from the dark forces of the human world, which includes keeping her away from Hulk. She explains that she is the chosen consort of Lucifer, promised she would be mother to all the angels but Lucifer fell and Nephele was exiled to Earth. Eventually, seeing that there were many innocents around, she began collecting them, putting them in the little porcelain dolls, and hiding them from the world. Hulk rains brutal blows on her until she is a crumpled heap on the floor. But then she rises, with a halo and massive wings, and spits fire at Hulk. He again beats her, breaking her neck. Then Lucifer arrives to take her home, having found her because of Hulk. He promises that Hulk will never see either of them again. Hulk enters the room Charlie has been calling from and he finds her trapped in a tiny porcelain Frozen Charlotte doll….

Incredible Hulk #11 Review by (April 10, 2024)
Review: And the tale concludes with Hulk battling the gruesome Frozen Charlotte and sort of winning. Hope they remember to rescue all of the other trapped souls. Anyway, guest artist Danny Earls did a fine job drawing a grim underworld that combines the angelic and demonic to give the tale a unique spin of its own.

Comments: Issue includes a text article on the history of Frozen Charlotte. Issue includes a tribute to the late Paul Neary, former editor-in-chief at Marvel UK, among other things.
