Marvel Comics Presents #54 Review by (February 15, 2010)
“On the Road” part 1 of 8. First of four stories in this issue, Hulk does not appear in the others. Hulk is gray, in his post-Joe Fixit phase. The most puzzling aspect of the story: who is the hitchhiker? He seems to be Bruce Banner, he’s described as the intellectual type, but can’t be because a) Wolverine doesn’t recognize him and b) it’s night and he’s not the Hulk. So who is it? The fake Wolverine in his real form? Hasn’t had one in years. Fake Wolverine’s victim? Why was he out here at all? It’s also never made clear who fake Wolverine killed or why.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Marvel Comics Presents #54 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro
On a rainy night in the Carolinas, Wolverine is driving down a country road, having just checked out another false report on the whereabouts of the missing X-Men. He comes upon a traveler being attacked by a bear and leaps into action, killing the beast and aiding the wounded man. Instead of thanking him however, the surly hitchhiker demands to be let out of the pickup.

Minutes later, we see someone who looks exactly like Wolverine tearing someone apart with his claws. The real Wolverine, concerned, follows the hitchhiker a few minutes later and comes to a cave where he suddenly confronts…the Hulk!
