Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Marvel Comics Presents #59 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro
The false Wolverine reveals himself as Calvin Rankin, the Mimic, who reviews his history for Hulk (and the reader): How he inhaled chemicals used by his father and gained the power to absorb other people’s abilities. How his father took him to live in a cave where his father was accidentally killed. How Calvin met and battled the X-Men until Professor X erased his mind. How his powers were restored and he joined the X-Men for a short time, etc. Eventually and during a confrontation with the Hulk (TIH #161), he absorbed Jade Jaws’ radiation and apparently died. Instead, he lay in a coma until Wolverine happened by; Cal absorbed Logan’s healing factor and recovered with the side effect that he was now permanently Wolverine’s double. At this point the real Wolverine arrives and offers to help Rankin, but the Mimic's only intent is vengeance against the one he blames for all his troubles: Wolverine!
