Captain America #37 Review by (June 18, 2018)

Review: Cap's attention is divided between his rogue “brother” Protocide and his discovery that Connie's beloved brother is now a Bond villain. More action in this latest dust-up between the two super-soldiers but also Cap's efforts to reach a tender spot in his enemy's heart. Lectures don't usually work, especially when the listener can't connect what is said to anything he's been told about Cap. The oddest bit is Cap's musing on the limited roles of women in his day and coming to no point; perhaps writer Jurgens was having a politically-conscientious moment.

Comments: Cap is no fan of Snoop Dogg (referred to by his earlier name of Snoop Doggy Dog [minus a g]). Cap refers to two women Justices on the Supreme Court; at this time they were Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America #37 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

SHIELD Director Sharon Carter tells Captain America about the open warfare between A.I.M. and Hydra, with the former's Protocide as their unstoppable executioner. Feeling a kinship with this villainous super-solder, Cap is determined to bring him in. Nick Fury arrives, informing Cap that Connie Ferrari's brother David is a former SHIELD agent who has faked his death and gone rogue, and Fury is going after him....

Steve, at dinner with Connie asks her about David, trying to work up to telling her he is still alive but he is interrupted by a call from Sharon. As he leaves, Chet Madden arrives with some legal troubles; he takes an interest in Steve Rogers....

Cap arrives at a Hydra waterfront facility as Protocide is inside wreaking havoc. Cap attacks Protocide, berating him for wasting his potential and becoming a killer. Hydra agents fire on them both, forcing the two super-soldiers to team up against their enemies. A shock-gun blast hurls Protocide into the energy core; Cap reaches in a hauls him out, advising him to take advantage of this second chance. The baddie then hurls Cap into the core and proclaims himself the only Captain America left....
