Synopsis

Captain America (2005 series) #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

The Red Skull’s minions in London receive word that their master has been killed (issue #1), making Mother Night the new leader and uncertain of their course of action….

At SHIELD HQ, Sharon Carter is coordinating the search for the Skull’s henchmen. The dead villain’s cell phone led to a search in London and Paris. Sharon suggests the exhausted Captain America take a break. While he is trying to focus, he has a flashback to the War: he and Bucky are ambushed by Baron Zemo and his gang and Cap is shot in the chest—except it didn’t happen that way. Then word comes from their allies in London: Union Jack led a team of commandos in an assault on the Skull’s London command center and found Mother Night and the AID team dead, brutally slaughtered, and their bomb missing. In Paris, Cap and Sharon spot an AIM carrier and Cap shoots down the craft single-handedly and defeats the AIM villains. However they know nothing of the plans of the Red Skull and were merely trying to recover a bomb that was stolen from them by the splinter group AID. Nick Fury confirms that the murdered man in Manhattan was the Red Skull and suggests Steve and Sharon take some R&R. As they walk along the Seine, Steve reminisces about his time there during the War, when he and the Invaders supported the heroes of the Resistance in the liberation of their city.

In a bar just outside Pittsburgh, a drunken Jack Monroe annoys the skeptical patrons with his claims that he was once Captain America’s sidekick. Leaving the bar, he is shot down by a mysterious assailant and his body placed in the trunk of a car….
