Synopsis

Immortal Hulk (2018 series) #28 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Two plots run concurrently in this issue. First centers on a Roxxon security guard who wonders where the good old days have gone. He is puzzled by his angry rebellious daughter and equally mystified by the Teen Brigade, a band of protesters who wear cheap Hulk masks, following the huge green guy as a hero. At the small Roxxon facility where he works there is the sudden appearance of the Teen Brigade and he thinks he recognizes one of the protesters as his daughter behind the mask. He draws his gun, knowing he would be justified in shooting if he feels “threatened.” As he aims his gun, Hulk comes down in front of him, causing him to fire and the bullet hits Hulk harmlessly in the shoulder. Hulk says, “Welcome to Planet Hulk….”

The other plot centers on Roxxon CEO Dario Agger a/k/a the Minotaur. With Hulk’s attack on Roxxon’s social media servers (last issue), the corporation’s stock is dropping while Baintech is picking up their lost market share with a new app. Agger bemoans the ingratitude of teens who have snubbed the company that gave them all their tech to follow the Hulk. Roxxon’s contract with the government was a financial scam and they never thought they would have to fight the Hulk but that is what Hulk is leading them into. Agger ponders trying to think of a way to “package” the Hulk in a way that he cannot escape. They try a scheme where they manufacture plastic Hulk masks, intending to co-opt Hulk but there isn’t any way to make a profit.  So Agger travels to Monster Isle to meet with Xemnu the Titan, the original Hulk….

Immortal Hulk (2018 series) #28 Review by (December 11, 2019)

Review: Another offbeat issue pairing the tribulations of Dario Agger and Roxxon in his quest to find a way for a corporation to defeat the Hulk with the musings of a low-level Roxxon employee who has never questioned the company but finds himself facing the Hulk in a world he never made. The satirical edges of the tale are the best part, again, Agger’s misguided schemes linked with the helplessly confused musings of the security guard. And the Titan makes for a pretty cool last page reveal.

Comments: The original Teen Brigade was a more innocent band of Hulk fans led by Rick Jones and introduced early in Hulk’s comic career. Xemnu first appeared in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #62 and #66 called the Hulk; when the name was given to the green-skinned hero a few years later, Xemnu was rebranded as the Titan. The Xemnu name came along much later, when he was revived as a Hulk/Defenders villain. Tom Reilly did the art for the sections featuring the guard and Hulk; Matias Bergara drew the Minotaur plot.
