Synopsis / Summary / Plot
In the Unity Squad's HQ in an abandoned theatre Steve Rogers gets a call from Tony Stark asking if they need Iron Man's help with the situation in Boston. But Steve wants to see if his team can handle it themselves 1st.
In the aforementioned city Deadpool, Dr Voodoo, Human Torch, Quicksilver and Rogue are battling dog-like creatures, giant bees and dangerous plants. Synapse is trying to shut down the brains of the animals, but as she discovered last issue they don't have animal-type brains for her to affect.
Just then a mother wanders across the battle scene pushing a pram. She's trying to get her baby to hospital. The mother shows some symptoms of turning vegetable, but her baby has been completely transformed to green. Synapse carefully boosts the child's immune system until she throws off the symptoms. Then Rogue tells Quicksilver to take the pair to hospital. Before he leaves Pietro informs them that he has tracked the epicentre of the infection to Beacon Hill.
Dr Voodoo finds a man killed by the infection. Johnny Storm remembers Reed Richards' frequent exhortations to learn some science. So he decides to fly the body to MIT to find someone who can maybe devise a cure, promising to keep in mental contact with Synapse. He finds a group of students (maybe they're at least post-grads).
Quickie returns and says he's seen someone they should investigate. He rushes off again and the others try to follow. Team-leader Rogue worries about her troops not respecting her authority as they get bogged down in 'dogs'. And Synapse loses mental contact with the speedster.
At the Massachusetts State House the Shredded Man arrives with some 'dogs' and some converted police. He demands that humanity abandon its cities and return to live with Nature. To prove his power he causes a giant vegetable to burst through the building, hanging with the birth sacs of the 'dogs' and spewing the infectious spores.
Quicksilver races onto the scene and knocks him for 6. But the vegetation responds by nicking Pietro's neck, causing him to feel faint. The man who recently (last series) discovered he wasn't really a mutant is pushed into the belly of the plant.
Now we go to 2087 where a man with a talking decal called Belle on his metal arm arrives in Boston. Apparently the rest of the Earth is like this. They wonder if this is related to the M-Pox. The man wants to blame it on the Kree, but Belle says they don't know what happened here either. They come across 1 of the 'dogs' which the man describes as a plant-animal with a pod instead of a brain.
They shelter from a local increase of Terrigen Mist. The man finds an old newspaper from the period the rest of this issue is set in, describing Deadpool as 1 of the Avengers. The man refers to him as Wade and wonders if DP left a message in their dead drop.
The man is Cable. He decides to leave off their fight with Stryfe and go back to 2016 to fix the problem the Avengers obviously couldn't.
