After being killed by the Gamma bomb
(issue #6), Bruce Banner remembers darkness until he was freed by
Hulk relaxing after a wild lovemaking session with Red She-Hulk
(issue #7.1). Banner then arrived at a Las Vegas casino dressed only
in over-sized purple pants and proceeded to play roulette until he
had amassed a fortune. With the money he assembled what he needed for
his next mission, which would begin in Mexico on the trail of a drug
dealer named Pit Bull...the tale picks up one week later (after the
events of the “Stay Angry” arc, issues #8-12) with Banner
staggering through the Antarctic waste and rescued by a team he had
hired earlier. After the medical team saves his life and removes the
insectoid mechanical device, Banner speaks with the blind doctor who
leads the team, asking what he should do next; the philosophical
doctor advises him to find his way home....
A heavily armed Banner then goes to
Latveria where he confronts Doctor Doom (really just a series of
Doombots), demanding to know why he separated Hulk and Banner. Doom
replies that it was to prove a point, namely, that without the Hulk,
Banner is a madman, an extremist, and a failure. Banner decapitates
Doom with a chainsaw and discovers that he was speaking to another
Doombot. The Doombots remind him of the various objects he had Hulk
gather in the Stay Angry arc and wants to know if he has what it takes
to put them all together....
Three weeks later, Banner is confident
that he has created the drug he was searching for, restrains himself,
and transforms into the Hulk. A recorded message brings us to the end
of previous issue, informing Hulk that Banner has found a cure for
the Hulk. Banner's recording goes on to apologize to Hulk and admits
that being the Hulk was what has kept Banner sane all these year.
Then he mentions that Doom used them, asking Hulk to seek revenge....
Then the Mad Squad (Amanda von Doom, Mr. Gor, BRAIN) bursts in and
finds the Hulk preparing to go smash Doctor Doom....
