Not Forgiven

Synopsis

Loki: Agent of Asgard #10 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

In the wake of the AXIS event, Loki apologizes to his best friend Verity Willis for all he’d done while inverted. They then plan to rescue Lorelei and Sigurd, imprisoned separately from their hearts (last issue). He makes a half-hearted joke about Thor being unworthy because he pooped in the Sacred Toilet…but he can’t finish it—and is compelled to explain it was false—because the spell that makes him unable to lie counts any and every falsehood. Thor appears—but now unworthy of being named Thor and calling himself the Odinson—to apologize to Loki for his treatment of him on the moon (last issue) and elsewhere (ANGELA #2). Thor is wistful for the carefree young Loki he once knew and wonders what happened to him. Though Thor had no idea what would come of this casual remark, Loki is compelled to confess that he killed him—the Crime That Will Not Be Forgiven. He explains in detail (in a full page of text) how he, the ghostly copy of evil Loki, entered into the body of the raven Ikol as guide to the (mostly) innocent young Loki and then, when the boy had exonerated himself by his actions during the FEAR ITSELF event, Ikol stole his body and exiled the good Loki to Limbo. He has since been trying to escape his wicked past and redeem himself and that’s where they are. Thor, now knowing the truth, savagely beats his brother’s murderer and hurls him out of the window. Loki is forced to draw Gram, the Sword of Truth, but Thor snatches it from him and shatters it as it would be better off destroyed than wielded by a killer. Loki pleads for mercy and Thor recalls how he promised to never give up on Loki. Unable to kill him, Thor takes Loki to Asgard and publicly denounces him and walks away from the injured Trickster who is begging for forgiveness….

Review / Commentaries

Loki: Agent of Asgard #10 Review by (January 27, 2015)
Comments: The original Loki died in SIEGE #4; Kid Loki entered the series in THOR (2007) #617. Kid Loki was exiled to Limbo and replaced by the bad Loki in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #645. Go read about it on this site.

Review: So finally the Crime That Will Not Be Forgiven occupies center stage and it’s a knockout. Literally, as Thor beats up on Loki for most of the issue. The issue is sharply written with Thor coming off as more of a brute than he did in earlier decades. And they seem about to make another epic change in the life of our protagonist—though who can tell what is going to disappear with the new SECRET WARS.
