Loki and Lorelei, Sitting in a Tree…

Synopsis

Loki: Agent of Asgard (2017 series) #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars
At a speed-dating venue, a tattooed redhead is approached by Loki; she wonders why he is dressed so strangely (cosplay?). He explains that he is Loki, Norse God of Mischief, and that he is looking for a certain goddess named Lorelei. Three weeks earlier he was planning a party for his neighbors when the All-Mother materialized in the punch and assigned him to bring Lorelei back to Asgardia. It was easy to trail Lorelei across Europe as she pulled off a string of capers to finance the real job. And so Loki was at the casino in Monte Carlo when Lorelei and her henchwomen Trixie and Daisy arrived to rob the place of one billion Euros. Daisy took the Amulet of Invisibility to move past the Interpol agents and come back with the getaway car; only she was easily captured as Loki had swapped out the real amulet for a fake. Inside the vault, Trixie revealed herself as Loki in disguise. But Lorelei had a portal in place as an emergency escape route and takes off before Loki could explain why he wanted her. Now he has traced her to the dating venue to make up for the loss of her loot. Loki wants to know why this woman is the only one who can see through his disguise. She’s not Lorelei (who is at the next table charming rich men out of their wallets). She is Verity Willis, whose lifelong curse is that she can see through any lie, no matter how big or small. This naturally has made finding love difficult; Loki assures her that she will meet the right man someday then hurries out after the departing Lorelei. He catches up to his quarry and tells her he needs her for a crime he’s plotting. Lorelei asks about the woman he was talking to and he assures her he has already forgotten Verity Willis. Verity, however, has heard him—and knows he’s lying….

Loki: Agent of Asgard (2017 series) #2 Review by (March 12, 2014)
Review: I really like this comic. Writer Ewing shows the same quirky sense of humor as Kieron Gillen (who is now the standard for Loki-centered comics) and Lee Garbett’s art si a delight, ably enhancing the prose with appropriately nutty images. And Verity Willis is delightful plus it looks like she’ll be back. Full marks.

Comments: Title comes from a children’s rhyme beginning “[Name] and [name] sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g….” used to tease other kids’ romances.
