Totally Awesome Hulk #17 Review by (March 31, 2020)

Review: Part three is pretty cool with the humans standing up to the villains against serious odds. Cool and thrilling with Amadeus actually being clever and the tragic death of a character that nobody liked to give it the semblance of gravitas. Still cool.

Totally Awesome Hulk #17 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

On the chunk of Manhattan orbiting Seknarf Seven as a food colony, Amadeus Cho addresses the citizens: they were able to summon Alpha Flight but the aliens will be returning soon: should they hand over three of them or fight? Amadeus has worked out some of their vulnerabilities but Jeffrey Gunderblank balks out of fear. Jimmy Woo puts the issue in practical terms: this will be a real fight for their lives. Ms. Marvel and Silk are building protective bunkers for the children and noncombatants while Jake Oh is leading work on figuring out how the power systems work. But the aliens come early and they know what the humans have been doing so Prince Regent Phalkan demands their three sacrifices. Instead Shang-Chi and the others launch their attack with explosives and kung fu but Phalkan cuts off the gravity and they humans work together so that no one is lost. With the threat to cut off the oxygen, Jimmy Woo and Jake Oh volunteer as expendable; Amadeus chooses to be the third. But the humans are able to cut the shielding enabling Amadeus to change into the Hulk and clobber all of the Guards, snatching Jimmy and Jake and returning to the ground. They power up life support and the battle is on, with the heroes shielding the humans from the enemy blast—but Jeffrey Gunderblank is mortally wounded; this makes Hulk and the others mad and Hulk leads a frenzied charge against the enemy….
