When the abducted Betty Ross asks a leaping Hulk to land near her hotel, she can’t suspect they will arrive in the middle of a car heist. Hulk foils the robbery but one thief shoots him during a spontaneous change back into Bruce Banner.
A foreign Communist freighter releases a metallic capsule in the New York Harbour. It contains a creature, the Missing Link, created by the exposition of a caveman to an atomic test. Once upon the ground, the mutant starts roaming the streets of the metropolis. Alerted by the shots fired, the police arrive at Betty Ross’ hotel only to find her leaving with the wounded Bruce Banner, who soon transforms back into the Hulk.
The Hulk evades the police, only to find himself caught in a conflict with the menacing Missing Link. The close presence of the nuclear monster causes the Hulk to revert to Bruce Banner, if only in body, since he keeps his monstrous personality!
In another part of town, General Thunderbolt Ross has Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards working on a weapon based on Bruce Banner’s design, which should neutralize the Hulk. Major Glenn Talbot and Rick Jones leave with the finished prototype in search of the wandering green behemoth.
Reverting to his brutish form, the Hulk resumes his fight with the Missing Link until he discovers his attacks harm himself more than his opponent. He crashes into a building on his foe, only to have Talbot and Jones arrive at the site of battle. Trying to warn them of the danger, Richard’s weapon shoots Hulk, causing him to change back to Banner.
Freeing himself from the rubble, the Missing Link recognizes Banner and lunges for the three assembled humans!
