Incredible Hulks #623 Review by (July 24, 2018)

Review: Ugh. Giant bugs. A promising story starts to slide toward the “Ick Factor” boding ill for the next two chapters. I would have rather seen them continue with Kate Waynesboro's “that's what family is for” homily. The lush artwork makes the story quite attractive to the eye and suits the milieu very well but again...bugs. Giant bugs.

Comments: Joke: The Sakaarian kids have action figures of Hulk and the Warbound. Issue includes a six-page preview of X-MEN: FIRST TO LAST. Dean White and Frank Martin are co-credited as colorists.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Incredible Hulks #623 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

At Gammaworld, Hulk is still unconscious after his beating by Zeus (last issue) and Dr Kate Waynesboro is trying to help him; a powerful defibrillation charge snaps him out of the coma but he's enraged so that She-Hulk and A-Bomb have to keep him from killing Kate while Red She-Hulk has to knock him out. Kate explains that having his family around allows the hero to shine through....

Hulk plans to leave in the night when he receives a call from Ka-Zar: members of the Sakaarian colony in the Savage Land are being killed by an unidentified predator and he wants Hulk's help in stopping it. Rebuffing his family, he sets out with Skaar and his Warbound (Korg, Elloe Kaifi, Brood) to the Antarctic....

Arriving in the Savage Land, they come upon Ka-Zar and a band of Sakaarians battling a giant dinosaur. Hulk intervenes but is bitten by the creature before Ka-Zar can kill it. Skaar realizes the monster was only trying to protect her children from the murderous Sakaarians, who acted against the orders of their Red Elder. These creatures were not the ones killing Sakaarians....

That night the Sakaarians celebrate the arrival of Hulk and the Warbound, but after they go to sleep the Red Elder reveals that he drugged them, so that Hulk could be carried off by giant bugs to the cave of his enemy Miek....
